I have found that setting the idle screws by turns out is always inconsistent on anything other than a new carb. This is due to the contact point on the slide wearing. Its a soft aluminium material. Screw the idle screws out, use a 7mm drill shank as a guage and turn screws in. Put my carbs back on, set the idling to 2200 rpm and the problem was solved. Now I believe that the 582 should idle at 2000 rpm, but all I know is that the extra 200 rpm solved the problem.
